A Note from your Teachers
Dear Parents,
This was a high energy week! In case you haven’t heard yet…WE HAVE BUTTERFLIES!!!!! Two butterflies emerged before Mass this morning (yes, God was laughing at us as we tried to regain control before Mass). A third butterfly emerged later in the day. We did not see it emerge, but we got to see it just afterwards! Weather permitting, we will be releasing them Monday.
Monday we will also be participating in our school May Crowning! We will be processing into the church at 10:00am. Please send your student to school with a flower to place in front of Mary. Parents are welcome to come and participate in this beautiful ceremony celebrating our Lord’s mother, Mary! Please see the Knightly News for more information.
Friday is an early dismissal with no extended daycare available. Dismissal will begin at 11:30am and all students must be picked up by 11:50am. We will not be having lunch in school however, we will have snack-time so please pack accordingly.
Next week we will be learning the -un word family as well as the sight words: said, there, use, each. We will continue writing descriptive sentences as we learn about journal writing. In Math we will begin our unit on measurement. We will focus on comparing and measuring length, height, weight, and temperature using standard and non-standard tools. In Science we will continue to learn about plant parts and how they help a plant grow. Finally, in Religion we will be discussing the importance of placing God first in our lives.
As we near the end of the year (already?!?!?!), you will notice an extra plastic sleeve placed in your student’s blue homework folder. The paper, entitled ‘Sight Word Assessment First 75’, is a list of the sight words we have learned this year. We will have learned the first 50 by the time we begin the end of year assessments (the last 2 weeks of May). This is an excellent reference when practicing sight words - just remember it is only the first 50! Similarly, the rest of the plastic sleeves are also a great way to practice for the upcoming end of the year assessments. Just as we did in the beginning and mid year assessments, we will be checking letter/sound recognition, rhyming, reading level, number recognition, counting, and of course sight words. We will also be administering a Diocesan Math assessment which checks all concepts covered this year. As we did with both previous assessments, we will send home the results once all testing is completed.
Please keep our second graders in your prayers as they receive their First Holy Communion tomorrow! Our students are so excited for their friends and can’t wait to see them receive next Friday during school Mass!
We are enjoying the energy as our year begins to wind down! The students are excited to “Show what they Know” in new and adventurous ways! Their excitement is contagious! Enjoy their enthusiasm!
